I think Mya had one of her best days ever yesterday! She came home from her school with a brand new bike, helmet, knee pads, elbow pads and a cake! They had their annual fund raiser carnival and Jenny spent $5 on tickets and won the bike, helmet, knee and elbow pads. Mya went on a “cake walk” game and won herself a cute red velvet cake, which was delicious! She was so pleased with herself, as she should be… but so dang cute! I was glad for her that she won the bike… not so long ago at Easter she went on an Egg Hunt that had a grand prize of a bike and she didn’t win that, but she was a pretty good sport about it. Makes me glad she won this time!

Dr. Seuss controversy

For some reason I found this intresting…
“Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel, 1904-1991) was a life-long cartoonist: in high school in Springfield, Massachusetts; in college at Dartmouth (Class of 1925); as an adman in New York City before World War II; in his many children’s books, beginning with To Think That I Saw it on Mulberry Street (1937). Because of the fame of his children’s books (and because we often misunderstand these books) and because his political cartoons have remained largely unknown, we do not think of Dr. Seuss as a political cartoonist. But for two years, 1941-1943, he was the chief editorial cartoonist for the New York newspaper PM (1940-1948), and for that journal he drew over 400 editorial cartoons.” LINK

“Before Theodore Seuss Geisel found fame as a children’s book author, the primary outlet for his creative efforts was magazines. His first steady job after he left Oxford was as a cartoonist for Judge, a New York City publication. In 1927 one of these cartoons opened the way to a more profitable career, as well as greater public exposure, as an advertising illustrator. This fortuitous cartoon depicts a medieval knight in his bed, facing a dragon who had invaded his room, and lamenting, “Darn it all, another dragon. And just after I’d sprayed the whole castle with Flit” (a well-known brand of bug spray).” LINK

Lark Toy Company

Today I took my granddaughter, Mya, to the Lark Toy Company in Kellogg, Minnesota. 20,000 square feet of FUN! Kid heaven, actually. Adult heaven too! Five minutes in that store releases the inner child, and the collection of toys they have is amazing! Toys that I haven’t seen in years! They even have a hand carved working carousel that is absolutely beautiful! Here is a pic…
This is a wizard riding a dragon, really cool, but each animal on this carousel was gorgeously carved and painted. Mya loved it and insisted on riding it 3 times. It ran once every half hour, so in between rides we ate lunch at their cafe and bought some fudge to bring home for Miikka. Mya also loved the book section of this toy store. The whole place was so kid friendly, like a toy store should be. Each area had things set up so the kids could actually play and try out the different toys… and so could the adults, lol.
I just can’t say enough about this place. It was so much fun, and their miniature golf course wasn’t even open yet, lol. Mya and I can’t wait to go back with Miikka and Jenny! If you ever get the chance, I strongly suggest a day trip there yourself… you won’t regret it!
